How much and how many se utilizan para preguntar acerca de cantidades. How much se utiliza para sustantivos incontables y how many para sustantivos contables. Ejemplos:

Recordemos, sustantivos contables con todos aquellos que pueden dividirse en unidades, mientras que los incontables no. No obstante, un sustantivo incontable puede convertirse en contable si lo expresamos en envases o pesos y medidas. Por ejemplo:
- Milk (incontable) > Bottles of milk (contable)
- Sugar (incontable) > Kilos of sugar (contable)
Es habitual utilizar el verbo “haber” en este contexto. En inglés se traduce como There is (para el singular o sustantivos incontables) o There are (para sustantivos contables en plural). Ejemplos:
